Communications Technology programs give students the opportunity to assist in the development of future communications systems. This is an important field because of the effects that communications technology has on our everyday lives. Today, we are able to send our voices, data, and images easily over great distances thanks to communications technology. Students in these programs may study communications engineering, which focuses on applied telecommunications theory, or microelectronics, which focuses on optoelectronics and microwave communications. These are just two examples of specializations within the field.
Some programs focus more on the graphic communications technology aspect of the industry. Students learn theory along with laboratory experiences that reinforce that theory. They study digital media, learn realistic problem-solving skills, and focus on subjects like communications, math, science, and technology. They also have the opportunity to take a variety of electives that may serve to advance their career potential after graduation and make them more attractive to particular employees.
