Detailed profiles of schools for Educational Psychology from the EdRef college search portal.
Educational Psychology programs prepare psychologists to become practitioners who use applied research to assist students and their families with development. They learn to identify and resolve educational problems that occur in both children and adults. They accomplish this through the use of scientific methods and assessment, as well controlled intervention. They learn to accurately assess the development of their patients in their academic and social environments. Their work is not limited to students, as they often consult with and train teachers and parents as well.
The primary goal of graduates is to be able to increase the psychological and educational well-being of their subjects, mostly children. An emphasis is placed on developing a functioning competency in school settings, as well as in research facilities in universities. Many graduates work within school systems that are demanding and diverse. They apply psychological theories and research to understand the educational needs of children and youth.
