Environmental Control programs train students to assist in the development of new technology that has the ability to improve energy utilization in various industries. Programs cover coursework that is at the intersection of traditional science, technology, and engineering. Students learn to apply a range of environmental technologies and regulations. They receive a technical background that enables them to resolve environmental problems in government or private industry. They learn how to sample, analyze, and treat air, water, and solid waste. They learn how to conduct site assessments and occupational health audits.

Graduates of these programs are trained to identify health and safety hazards in the workplace. They may conduct research relating to occupational health problems and implement procedures to reduce environmental-based health hazards. They may study concentrations such as environmental molecular epidemiology and occupational epidemiology. They may focus on chronic disease studies of populations who have been exposed to heavy metals, petrochemicals, or other dangerous organic compounds.
