Architectural Engineering Colleges

Architectural Engineering programs prepare students to design and construct buildings and building-related systems. Students focus on design principles, practice, methods, and materials through a combination of laboratory and classroom time. The discipline draws from a number of areas, including business, science, mathematics, and design. Many programs offer students the option of choosing an emphasis within the program, such as environmental systems, structural systems, or electrical systems. The scientific and engineering perspectives are focused on equally throughout the program.

Programs give students a basic understanding of building systems and a specific understanding of one smaller area. Studies include mechanical, lighting, acoustical, architectural, and structural topics. Students also learn about construction methods, as well as the economics and business behind building operations. Many programs make use of CADD systems, and others focus on ancillary subjects such as physics or technical writing.
