Detailed profiles of schools for Community Health from the EdRef college search portal.
Community Health programs prepare students to gain entry-level employment in health education. Students study health sciences, physical activity, and school health. Because the programs allow students to complete many prerequisites, they also prepare students to gain admission to graduate studies in dentistry, medicine, physical therapy, or occupational therapy. Graduates may teach exercise, nutrition, fitness, and physical activity. Or they may teach health education in public or private institutions.
Programs are interdisciplinary in nature, studying patterns of population health and disease, health needs, health policy, health care, and health services. Elements of biology, behavioral science, and economics are woven throughout the curriculum. Students also examine the structure of national and international health care systems, resource allocation, and distribution of disease. Students gain competence in epidemiology, health care, and health planning. They may go on to become administrators, policy makers, or public health professionals.
