Clothing Apparel And Textile Studies

Clothing, Apparel and Textile programs give students the background they need in order to be able to analyze the structure, function, and behavior associated with clothing and the individuals who wear it. Clothing plays a major role in meeting human needs, both physical and social. Clothing is also an important part of the world economy, with clothing being subject to international trade regulations. Students can earn bachelor of science degrees in fashion and apparel merchandising, which focus on fashion, textiles, and business. They learn about national and international markets through laboratory and practicum experience.

The other two areas of study within this discipline are the social and the physical areas. The social arena includes the study of definitions of dress within cultural and historical contexts. Students examine material culture from a viewpoint of apparel manufacturing, marketing, and distribution. In the physical arena, students focus on the properties of various fabrics, yarns, fibers, and materials in order to develop better product designs.
