Detailed profiles of schools for Humanities And Liberal Arts from the EdRef college search portal.
Humanities and Liberal Arts programs are focused on providing students with a generalized education in which they are exposed to a wide variety of subjects. In humanities programs, students take courses in English, fine art, philosophy, foreign language, and music. Students gain the skills of analysis, critical thinking, and creativity, which positions them well for careers in such fields as law, education, advertising, and writing. They get a broad-based education that allows them to develop a number of interests over a number of areas. The end result is a graduate with a breadth of knowledge in many different subjects.
Programs in liberal arts include studies in the humanities, but also in the social and behavioral sciences. A primary goal of these programs is to enrich the cultural understanding of students. Students often have the option of combining their liberal arts study with a major from another area of the university. They gain a well-rounded education, while still being able to focus on a major or minor. They may concentrate their studies in such fields as psychology, history, or sociology.
