Peace Study programs examine some of the most enduring problems in the history of humanity, mainly the origins and nature of conflict between societies. It also looks at efforts to design systems that encourage peaceful and equitable existence within the social framework of societies. Graduates of these programs are equipped to move into careers in conflict management, international organization, non-government organizations, civil service, local councils, military, police, journalism, and education. Some students combine their studies with degrees in public policy, conflict resolution, or mediation.

These programs prepare students to work on issues related to peace and justice throughout the world. They learn to analyze conflict using theoretical tools. They learn the basics of conflict resolution while developing insights into the design of peaceful social change. Many programs feature an internship option which provides students the opportunity to learn through experience. The main goal of peace study programs is to produce useful scholarship that can be applied to creating a more just and peaceful world.
