Technology and Society programs examine the question of how science and technology have influenced society throughout history and in modern times. Issues relating to the discovery, theory, and invention of technology across the world are studied. The field is informed by the disciplines of history, philosophy, and sociology as they relate to science and technology. Because of this, the field remains extremely interdisciplinary and may from the basis for a liberal arts education.

Students choose from a variety of courses of study, all of which introduce them to critical and interdisciplinary approaches to the interactions between science, technology, and society. Students from majors in the natural sciences and engineering commonly study this discipline, focusing on the social, political, and ethical consequences of their fields. Students from the humanities and social sciences get the chance to study the processes, products, and impacts of science and technology on society at large.
