Detailed profiles of schools for Library Aide from the EdRef college search portal.
Library Aide programs prepare students to become employed as library aides. Library aides complete routine library tasks and provide clerical support to the more senior librarians and other library staff. Students learn clerical support skills, re-shelving procedures, display setup, and security operations. They learn about bibliographic records, user records, and following up on overdue materials. They learn to process and prepare resources and materials, as well as how to assist customers in locating resources and materials.
Programs typically provide education in communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the application of these skills to both children and adults. As the programs progress, they typically include assignments that are more varied and require the use of judgment and independence. Students learn to execute the physical motions involved in the job, including bending, labeling, reaching, pushing, carrying, jacketing, and minor repair.
