Middle Eastern Language and Literature programs offer students the chance to develop an in-depth understanding of this area of the world. Students can obtain degrees in which they obtain a broad knowledge of the Middle East, including study in history, contemporary society, Islamic studies, archaeology, art, as well as languages like Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, and Turkish. Students can also pursue degrees that are more specialized such as an M.A. in Middle Eastern Studies and Business Administration. This type of program would prepare graduates to enter careers in international business connected to the Middle East.

These programs attempt to break down traditional barriers involved in studying the region by focusing on cross-regional approaches. They now go beyond the traditional geographic boundaries of the region developed by the U.S. during the Cold War to account more for the international flow of people and products that has resulted from globalization.
