Detailed profiles of schools for Philosophy And Religion from the EdRef college search portal.
Philosophy and Religion programs give students the opportunity to delve into the deeper meanings of life from many different angles. Students of philosophy study major philosophers and philosophies, and they learn to participate in philosophical dialogues. They learn the skill of analytical reflection, enabling them to make connections between abstract ideas and real-life things. Students may choose to study either traditional or contemporary schools of thought, or they may choose to study both. One of the die-effects of the study of religion is an increased self-awareness.
Students in religious studies programs combine study in scripture with a knowledge of the history and theology of religion. The values of today’s society are examined and used to frame a current understanding of the Bible. Programs are typically flexible, which gives students the opportunity to design a degree that meets their personal and academic goals. Programs are highly interdisciplinary and are excellent preparation for many different graduate school programs, as well as for entering ministries.
