Cognitive Psychology programs give students the opportunity to study the way individuals encode, store, organize, and use information. They may study pattern recognition, attention, memory, or problem solving. The course of study is multidisciplinary, with classes focusing on developmental psychology, cognitive neuroscience, social health, and cognitive science. Undergraduate programs are ideal for preparing students to enter clinical graduate programs.

There are many areas of specialization within cognitive psychology, including attention, cognitive aging, cognitive neuroscience, computational modeling, eye movements, executive control, individual differences, psycholinguistics, reading, skill acquisition, spatial navigation, visual cognition, and working memory. Programs begin with a foundation in social/personality psychology, developmental psychology, cognition, and cognitive neuroscience. In the later years, students can decide which area of study they would like to specialize in.
