Detailed profiles of schools for Social Psychology from the EdRef college search portal.

Social Psychology programs give students a strong theoretical foundation in the social and personality areas of psychology as well the training they need to apply this knowledge to social issues. Students learn how to contribute to the broad base of psychological knowledge through research that focuses on human behavior. Programs focus on learning both basic and applied research techniques, including computer based assessment of attitudes, computer algorithms that identify cognitive structures, and structural equation modeling.

Programs help students become familiar with past and current work in the field of social psychology. They learn statistical methods and methodological skills that form the basis of research. They examine the ethical issues that underlie the profession and govern the conduct of psychological researchers. Many programs include some type of research apprenticeship or internship in which students can gain practical experience in such areas as group processes, health psychology, cognitive processes, and social behavior.
