Biblical Literature programs give students a strong foundation in Christian faiths that will positively influence their chosen vocation. The programs also serve to prepare students for church ministry or graduate study. Students explore specific Biblical passages and sections in order to understand the Biblical tradition and text. They strive to explore the question of why this particular text has endured throughout the times. They attempt to examine alternative explanations and evaluate them. The Bible is explored in the context of great literature and the students’ knowledge of Scripture is greatly enhanced.
Many programs combine general education courses with courses in Biblical literature. Students learn how to comprehend and articulate the major concepts of the Bible. Their knowledge of the Bible and their ability to teach others about it are greatly increased. They come to a proper understanding of the Bible by begin given a broad knowledge of the text’s background, meaning, and content. A high degree of emphasis is placed on preparing students to effectively communicate their knowledge of the Bible to others.
