Vehicle and Equipment Operator programs prepare students to acquire jobs as operators of both heavy vehicles and heavy equipment in a variety of industries that utilize such equipment. For example, heavy vehicles and equipment are used in industrial activities like construction and railroads. Equipment is used to move materials, till land, lift beams, and dig earth. Operators of heavy vehicles and mobile equipment run the machines that make these activities possible. They may also be responsible for the repair and maintenance of hydraulic, transmission, and electrical systems on farm equipment, cranes, bulldozers, and railcars.
Students in these programs learn to perform basic checks on engines, fuel, brake, and transmission systems. They learn the techniques that make peak performance and high safety possible.
