Belhaven College Description

Belhaven College is a four-year Christian Liberal Arts college with over 2,400 students located in four campuses across the southern United States. Belhaven is the result of the merging of three separate institutions over the years, including Belhaven College, the McComb Female Institute, and the Mississippi Synodical College, which was founded in 1883. Belhaven College has a long relationship with the Presbyterian Church. Until 1972, Belhaven College was owned and operated by the Synod of Mississippi. In 1972, ownership of the college passed to a self-perpetuating board of trustees. Belhaven offers pre-professional programs, certificate programs, bachelor degree programs, and master degree programs in a broad range of disciplines. Belhaven is well known for its innovative and attractive ASPIRE accelerated degree program for adults. The innovative ASPIRE program allows individuals to complete their degree quickly, while still attending to their careers and personal lives. ASPIRE allows individuals to complete their degree in as little as two years, attending one study class and one study group per week. Belhaven offers a variety of ASPIRE programs for adult learners at all of its campuses.

Belhaven College has a Program Participation Agreement with the US Department of Education allowing eligible students to receive federal aid such as Pell Grants. Additional aid options open to students of Belhaven College include: loans, graduate teacher education programs, scholarships, state aid, Veterans Affairs (VA) education benefit programs, and vocational rehabilitation benefits. Belhaven College offers the following student services: alumni association, campus activities, career development services, clubs and organizations, counseling services, health services, library services, and an orientation. Belhaven College is accredited by the Commission of Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Additional accreditations and approvals include: the National Association of Schools of Music, the National Association of Schools of Art and Design, and the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education. Belhaven is licensed by the Florida Commission for Independent Education, is authorized by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission, and is approved by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to offer associate's, bachelor's, and master's degrees. In addition, Belhaven College is a member of the American Council on Education, the Mississippi Association of Independent Colleges, and the Association of Presbyterian Colleges. It is approved by the American Association of University Women, the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities, and the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities. Belhaven is also a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and competes in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference and the Mid-South Conference. Athletic programs include: baseball, men's basketball, women's basketball, cheerleading, cross country, football, golf, men's soccer, women's soccer, softball, tennis, and volleyball.
