Bethel University Description

Bethel University is a school of 5,400 students located in Arden Hills, Minnesota. Arden Hills is a suburb of St. Paul, Minnesota's second largest city and state capital. Bethel's College of Adult and Professional Studies and Graduate School also conduct courses in eight other locations across the Twin Cities. Bethel's seminary has teaching centers in Arden Hills, San Diego, the Boston area, Philadelphia, New York City, and Metro D.C. Bethel University began as a seminary in 1871. In 1914 it combined with a secondary academy and became a junior college. In 1947, a four-year liberal arts college was introduced, and in 2004 it was reorganized as Bethel University.

Bethel University awards certificate, bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in more than 100 fields of study, and prepares students for licensure in education and nursing. Bethel is organized into five schools: the College of Arts and Sciences, the Graduate School, the Bethel Seminary, the College of Adult and Professional Studies, and the School for Executive Leadership. Bethel's College of Adult and Professional Studies offers accelerated degree programs for working adults with substantial work and life commitments. The School for Executive Leadership is a faith-based resource for the development of senior executive leadership talent.

Bethel University ranked 13th among more than 140 schools classified as "Best Universities – Master’s" in the Midwest, according to 2006 figures released by U.S. News & World Report. Bethel is also listed in "Top Colleges for Top Students" by Peterson's Competitive Colleges and is listed in "The Best Midwestern Colleges" by Princeton Review.

Bethel University has a Program Participation Agreement with the US Department of Education allowing eligible students to receive federal aid such as Pell Grants. Additional aid options open to students of Bethel University include: grants, loans, scholarships, state aid, Veterans (VA) benefits, and work/study programs. Bethel also offers a monthly payment plan. Bethel University offers the following student services: academic advising, admissions, alumni services, career services, computer resources, counseling, disability services, and writing tutoring. Bethel University is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and the Association of Theological Schools. Bethel's teaching and nursing programs are approved by state boards, and many programs have received specialized accreditation, including nursing, social work, and athletic training. Bethel is a member of the Christian College Consortium, and the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities. Bethel is also a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) at the Division III level, and the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAC). It competes in 17 varsity sports.
