Boston University Description

Boston University (BU) is a school of over 30,000 students, located in Boston, Massachusetts. It is the fourth largest independent university in the United States, and one of Boston's most prestigious universities. BU students come from all fifty states and over 135 countries. Boston University is an independent, coeducational, and non-sectarian institution of higher education and research. It was originally founded in 1839 as the Newbury Biblical Institute. BU has seventeen schools and colleges that award diplomas, certificates, bachelor's, master's, doctoral, and professional degrees in more than 250 majors and minors. Each year BU awards more than 7,500 degrees. BU also offers 44 study-abroad programs in 18 countries.

BU ranked 60th on U.S. News & World Reports 2006 list of "America's Best Colleges", and 20th on its list of "America's Best Graduate Schools".

Boston University now offers its highly respected Master of Criminal Justice degree as an online degree program.
