Concord Law School Description

The Concord Law School, founded in 1998, is the first institution to offer a Juris Doctor (JD) degree wholly on-line. Using the latest Internet technologies, the Concord Law School's approach offers excellent instruction and maximum flexibility at affordable prices.

With over 1,700 students, the Concord Law School is one of the largest law schools in the United States. Its student body comes from all walks of life. Over one third already have advanced degrees. Students come from all U.S. states, and 13 other countries. Almost 80% of the student body resides outside of California where the Concord Law School is based.

The Concord Law School provides three degree granting programs, which include:

1. The Juris Doctor Program - Individuals who are seeking to practice law and have the widest range of career options should enroll in this program. Graduates are eligible to sit for the California Bar exam, and upon fulfilling other statutory requirements, can become eligible to practice law in the State of California. Candidates may be able to practice law in other states under reciprocity or admission by examination rules. As these rules and requirements are unique to each state, a candidate should check with the appropriate bodies in that state regarding fulfilling requirements.
2. The Executive JD Program - This program is designed for individuals who desire an education in law, but do not desire to practice law.
3. The Executive JD Health Law Track Program - This program is similar to the Executive JD program and is also designed for individuals who desire an education in law, but do not desire to practice law. This program provides a specialized health law track, consisting of 16 units of health law related courses.

The Concord Law School provides a variety of payment options including tuition financing.

The Concord Law School provides a full array of student services, including:

• A Pre-Start Fundamentals Program - This program acts as an introduction to the school's on-line environment as well as an introduction to the skills, background, and context necessary for success at Concord.
• Student Orientation - The orientation teaches students how to operate in the Concord on-line environment, how to study law, and how to access the resources available to students.
• Law School Advisor - All students have an advisor assigned to them who is readily accessible via phone, e-mail, or fax.
• Law Library Resources - The Concord Law School provides an on-line library with links to all of the material necessary for students to complete their assignments. Students also have access to a number of subscription-based services.
• Student Discussion and Study Groups - Study is further enhanced by on-line sites that facilitate discussion among students.
• Support - Support is available from faculty and administration via phone, e-mail, or fax.
• Tech Center - Concord has a very sophisticated, but easy to use, on-line environment supported by a state-of-the-art Internet delivery system. Tech support is available from the Tech Center for all students who require technical help.

The Concord Law School is an approved, degree-granting institution by the State of California Bureau of Private Post Secondary and Vocational Education. It is also accredited by the Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council (DETC). The DETC is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a national accrediting agency. The Concord Law School is also registered by the California Committee of Bar Examiners permitting its graduates to apply for admission to the California Bar.
