Golden Gate University Description

Founded in 1901 in San Francisco, Golden Gate University (GGU) has grown into California's fifth largest private university with over 6,000 students across six campuses and an online "CyberCampus". Golden Gate's overall mission is to offer a variety of exceptional programs that utilize the most advanced technologies and learning tools available.

Golden Gate University offers undergraduate certificate, undergraduate degree, graduate certificate, and graduate degree programs in business and management, information technology, taxation, and law. Over 50 programs of study are offered by GGU. To maximize convenience and flexibility, GGU offers innovative Saturday MBA programs and executive MBA programs, an evening master of accountancy program, and Golden Gate University's CyberCampus, allowing students to study at their own pace over the Internet. This flexibility makes it easy for individuals with substantial work and life commitments to obtain the education necessary to start a new career or to further an existing career.

Golden Gate University awards and distinctions include: GGU's School of Taxation is the nation's largest tax school, US News & World Report rated GGU's online programs as among the best in the nation, the 2003-2004 edition of Great Colleges for the Real World, a national guidebook, rated GGU as exceptional or above average in the areas of meeting student needs, total college experience and contributing to students' career development, and 100 Ways to Cut the High Cost of Attending College by Michael P. Violtt selected GGU as a winner in the category of "Colleges Designed to Serve Commuter Students".

Golden Gate University has a Program Participation Agreement with the US Department of Education for eligible students to receive Pell Grants and other federal aid (e.g., Direct Loans). Additional aid options open to qualifying students of GGU include employer reimbursement programs, grants, loans, and work/study programs. GGU also offers an installment payment plan. Approximately 61% of GGU students receive some form of financial assistance.
