Founded in 1946, the Culinary Institute of America is culinary arts school of over 2,000 students located in Hyde Park, New York. The CIA also has a branch campus, the Culinary Institute of America at Greystone, in the heart of Napa Valley in Helena, California.
The Culinary Institute of America offers associate and bachelor degree programs in culinary arts and baking and pastry arts. The associate degree programs take 21 months to complete. The bachelor degree programs take 38 months to complete. All programs include an 18-week externship where students can gain valuable, real-world, experience. Students also acquire real-world experience in one of five CIA restaurants or cafes. Prospective employers prefer job candidates with real-world experience. The Culinary Institute of America also offers two certificate programs, one in baking and pastry arts, and an accelerated culinary arts program (ACAP). Both are 30 weeks in duration.
The Culinary Institute of America offers the following student services: alumni services, counseling, health services, learning strategies services, library resources, a recreation center, student meals, and a writing center. The Culinary Institute of America has a Program Participation Agreement with the US Department of Education for eligible students to receive Pell Grants and other federal aid (e.g., Direct Loans). Additional aid options open to qualifying students of the CIA include grants, loans, scholarships, state aid, Veterans Administration (VA) benefits, and work/study programs. 92% of CIA students receive some form of financial assistance.
The Culinary Institute of America is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. The CIA is also accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology and holds an Absolute Charter issued by the New York State Board of Regents.
